1) What is a proxy server?
A proxy server is a computer that acts as an interstation resp. as a cache while surfing in the internet (but works also for e.g. FTP). You have to configure your browser to use a proxy.
I.e. if you surf to www.heise.de, the browser sends its request directly to the server www.heise.de that sends back the data directly to your computer's browser.
In contrast to a proxy the browser sends its request for the address www.heise.de to the proxy server. The proxy server gets the data from the server www.heise.de and sends them to the browser. Because the proxy manages the whole traffic, visited sites can be saved in its cache that will optimize speed and bandwidth.
2) Why were some links not found by ScanDL?
Dynamic (generated with variable values) JavaScript links will not be found, e.g.:

<a href="javascript:window.open('http://www.ScanDL.com/' + filename)">
"filename" is a variable that can get different values.

If other filetypes' files were not found, please send us the saved file with those links.

a) What is a URL?
b) How do I look for the URL of an HTML page?
a) A URL (Uniform Ressource Locator) is the WWW's special addressing form to get documents.
A URL consist of several parts: The protocol's name, a colon, two slashs (/) and the computer's Internet address, the path where the file is located and the filename.

Example: URL="http://www.ScanDL.com/aFolder/aFile.html"
The protocol is in this case http.
The ScanDL' WWW server's address.
The file that will be transfered is located in the subdirectory /aFolder/ and its name is aFile.html.

b) If you surfed to a website do as follows:

For Internet Explorer users:
  • right click in the document that has been loaded into the Internet Explorer
  • In the context menu, choose the option "Preferences"
  • select and copy the displayed URL
For Netscape Navigator users:
